What Does A Paediatrician Do?
Dr Mas: As paediatricians, we are medical doctors with special training and skills in dealing with illnesses that affect the health and development of babies, children and teenagers. We are also trained to diagnose and treat childhood illnesses ranging from minor health problems to more serious illnesses.Dr Heng: Paediatricians look after a baby or child’s health, welfare, behaviour and even problems pertaining to learning. Another important role that paediatricians play is to guide children and their parents or guardians and counsel them regarding diet, hygiene and disease prevention.
When your baby has been delivered, the doctor in the hospital will check the baby for congenital problems, and monitor the baby for things like breathing disorders, feeding problems, heart problems as well as jaundice.
